Elba, Getting There
Elba is located 20 km from the coastal town of Grosseto. The island can be
reacehd by plane or by ferry on either the Toremar company or Moby Lines.
Leaving from Piombino, the trip only takes under an hour on the normal ferry
boats and less on a fast hydrofoil. The larger (and slower) ferry boats can
bring your car along but you need to make a reservation in advance as the
holds of the ships fill up quickly in peak travel season. There are boats
departing regularly so if you are not traveling with a car, you seldom need
to worry about having a ticket in advance. The cost varies but is usually
approximately 25 Euro each way. Once on Elba, one can either drive or take
a bus to almost any destination.
There is a small airport on Elba located in the center of the island, in
the locality of La Pila (Marina di Campo) which offers connecting flights
from a number of larger cities in Europe.
