Rome,
Getting There
Though the traffic in and around Rome is very busy and at times terrifying
for those not accustomed to the Italian rules of the road, getting there is
easy as pie. One can still say that in Italy, all roads lead to Rome.
Car
Rome is easily reached by car on the A1 highway, which goes North-Sounth
all along the Italian peninsula.
Train
Trains from anywhere in Italy easily reach Rome in just a few hours.
We recommend traveling on the Eurostar trains whenever possible. These trains generally leave on time and are very fast and comfortable. For all trains in Italy, remember to stamp
your ticket in the yellow machines located in the train station before boarding. A conductor may ask to see your ticket on the train but they will expect that you have already stamped it before boarding the train.
Plane
Rome is home to Leonardo Da Vinci Airport, one of the main international
airports in Italy. There is a small train station just outside the airport so it is very easy to take a train into the city from the airport or visa versa. There are large luggage racks at the ends of the cars on the airport train. Otherwise you need to take a cab or bus to or from the airport since it is a good distance outside the city.
Special Tip!
If you will be needing train tickets to another city, especially Eurostar trains, buy them before you leave the airport from the small ticket counter at the airport station! This will save you a great deal of time and aggravation and is much preferred to waiting in long lines and feeling rushed to check your tickets at the Rome Termini. Even if the train is ready to pull out for Rome, it is well worth your time to wait for the next train and resolve all other train travel plans you need to make right there at the airport. |

When looking for the train to the airport in Rome's busy train station (Rome Termini), it is always located on track to the far right when facing the trains from the station. It is a track that does NOT come all the way down into the main station so you need to walk a long way between the first Binario to the right and the terminal building to the side. There are signs for the airport train but the distance may leave you confused about being headed in the wrong direction. There is usually a good number of people walking to and from the airport train.
