Getting to Cinque Terre
The Cinque Terre can be reached by car and by train, but the most efficient
and expedient way to get there is by train. The largest stations on either
side of the Cinque Terre are Genova on the North and La Spezia to the South.
Some of the trains that pass through do not make stops at all the towns, so
be sure to get a schedule and board one of the local trains if you intend
to get off at one of the towns. We don't recommend going to Cinque Terre by
car because the roads are small and windy and parking is usually very difficult.
In some villages, such as Vernazza, the public parking is about a kilometer
outside of town.
Driving Directions from La Spezia
Take the S.S. Litoranea delle 5 Terre. The nearest Highway exit is LA SPEZIA-S.STEFANO
MAGRA on the A12 Genova-Livorno or A15 Parma-La Spezia. You can park your
car above the villages along the road. In Riomaggiore and Manarola you will
find parking lots.
Cinque Terre Pass
You can buy a pass at any of the train stations that will allow you to board
any train between the 5 towns at any time of day and make an unlimited number
of trips. The passes are available for a week or just a day and are very inexpensive.
Be sure to pick up a train schedule that indicates which trains make all the
stops and which don't.
