Where to Stay

There are hundreds of places to stay in Venice ranging from hostels and luxury hotels to apartment and house rentals. When you are choosing your accommodations, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Hotel or apartment?
If you are only in Venice for a couple of nights, a hotel will likely be the best choice. But if you are planning an extended stay, you should definitely consider renting a small apartment. That way, when you go home it is easier to relax and cook your own meals or just have a simple snack whenever you like.
(see "Hotels or Not")

What part of the city do you want to be in?
The only way to get around in Venice is on foot or by boat. This is the city's greatest charm and it is still quite easy to get from point A to point B, even if they are on opposite ends of the city. Most tourists want to stay near San Marco. What they don't realize is that no matter what area of the city you sleep in, San Marco is just a short walk or boat ride away. If you want to see what Venice is really all about, try staying off the beaten path, or at least wander outside the tourist area. Don't worry about getting lost, there is a sign on almost every corner directing you to San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. Besides, there is no place more fun to get lost in than Venice!

We recommend …
Locana ai Santi Apostoli

This wonderful little hotel is on the third floor of a restored Venetian palace that dates back to 1450. The building is characterized by high beamed ceilings and imposing balconies. Located in a picturesque neighborhood along a wide street with many shops and restaurants, this hotel is a short walk from the Rialto Bridge and has several rooms that look directly out onto the Grand Canal.

The service is impeccable and the rates are competitive. There are 11 rooms, all furnished in typical Venitian style. Each room has air conditioning, television, and a minibar. As you sit in the elegant, comfortable lobby gazing out at a gondola crossing the canal, you will feel very much at home.
