Highlands, NC ...
Getting There

Highlands is located in the south western portion of North Carolina, close to the Georgia border. The most practical form of travel is by car, rented at the airport if you are coming from a long distance. Having the use of a car also makes it possible to explore the area. Without one, your possibilities would be quite limited.

Here are some driving directions from the major cities and airports nearby.

From the Asheville, NC Airport:
Go out of the airport and take a right onto 280 towards Brevard. When you get to Brevard, look for the sign to US 64 West. Take a RIGHT onto 64 West. Continue on that road and you will pass through Sapphire Valley and Cashiers. When you see the Highlands hospital, Flat Mountain road is coming up shortly on your right. Turn, then follow the signs to the hotel. It is 56-miles from the airport to the hotel and the trip should take approximately an hour and fifteen minutes.

From the Atlanta, GA Airport:
Take 75-north to 85-North. About thirty miles North of the airport, there will be a left hand turnoff onto 985, follow that towards GAINSVILLE, (not Greenville, but GAINSVILLE.) This road will eventually turn into US23/441, continue to follow this highway North, you will pass through Clayton, Mountain City, Rabun Gap and then into Dillard. When you see the Piggly-Wiggly on the right, go about a hundred yards more, and take a right onto Rt. 246. When you cross the North Carolina border, this will turn into NC106. This road will end at Main Street in Highlands. Take a right on Main, go a few blocks to the light, and make a left onto 64 East. Go approximately three miles to Flat Mountain Road, turn left, and follow the signs to the Lodge. This trip is 145 miles and should take approximately two hours and fifteen minutes.

From Greenville, SC:
Take US HWY 123 to Seneca, then HWY 28 to Highlands. HWY 28 will end at Main Street in Highlands. Continue straight through the light, at which point the road becomes 64 East. Go approximately three miles to Flat Mountain Road, turn left, then follow the signs to the Lodge. This trip takes approximately an hour and fifteen minutes.
